Bomb Threat or Suspicious Item

During an Incident

If you receive a written bomb threat:

  • Dial 911 and notify SCC and management immediately.
  • Promptly write down everything you can remember about receiving the threat. The police will need this information. See bomb threat checklist.
  • Remain calm.
  • Do not discuss the threat with other employees.
  • Security will determine the safest decision and whether to activate an AeroElert notification. The AeroElert will indicate how to respond or whether to evacuate.

If you receive a telephone bomb threat:

  • Remain calm.
  • Listen carefully. Be polite and show interest. Try to keep the caller talking so that you can gather more information.
  • If possible, write a note to an employee to dial 911 and notify SCC and management immediately.
  • Promptly write down as many details of the threat as you can remember.
  • Do not discuss the threat with other employees.
  • If evacuation is ordered proceed to the designated assembly area.

If you receive a suspicious parcel or object anywhere on premises:

  • Keep anyone from handling it or going near it.
  • Notify the SCC immediately.
  • Promptly write down everything you can remember about receiving the letter, parcel, or finding the object. The police will need this information.
  • Remain calm. Do not discuss the threat with other employees.
  • If evacuation is ordered, proceed to the designated assembly area.

If you find an unattended item:

  • Do not touch or move the item.
  • Visually check the immediate area to find potential owners and ask if it belongs to them.
  • Write down everything you can observe about the item. The police will need this information.
  • If the owner cannot be found, call 911/SCC and provide the item’s description and location.

After the Incident

Law enforcement and security may have additional questions for you. Please remain available to help them gain a complete understanding of the event.
