Shelter in Building

Shelter in Building (SIB) is a short-term precautionary procedure that will help protect employees by taking shelter inside the building if a hazardous condition exists outdoors such as a chemical spill, radiation spill, and severe weather.

During severe weather, a release of hazardous materials, or any situation where it is best to stay inside, you will be directed by emergency response personnel to shelter in building.

  • Stay inside the building and away from windows.
  • If you need water and food, proceed to the designated SIB supply location.
  • A SIB situation may last a few minutes to a few hours, not days
